Implantable lenses for high prescriptions

ICL Lenses Abroad

A reversible biocompatible lens implanted to correct severe refractive error. Here's what it costs across destinations, who it's for, and why Colombia leads on value.

What is ICL Lenses?

ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) correction places a soft, biocompatible lens between the iris and your natural lens — think of it as a permanent contact lens that lives inside the eye. No corneal tissue is removed.

ICL is the go-to solution for very high prescriptions, thin corneas, or dry eyes that rule out laser surgery. It's removable and the procedure is quick, with most patients noticing dramatically clearer vision almost immediately. The implant itself (often a Visian/EVO lens) is the main cost driver, which is why the savings abroad are still meaningful even though the absolute price is higher than laser.

Who is it for?

ICL suits patients with high myopia, thin or irregular corneas, or chronic dry eye — cases where LASIK, PRK, or SMILE aren't ideal.

ICL Lenses — frequently asked

Is ICL permanent?

The lens is designed to stay in place indefinitely but can be removed or replaced by a surgeon if your needs change — a key advantage over laser surgery.

Why is ICL more expensive?

The implantable lens itself is a manufactured medical device, and pricing reflects that. Even so, ICL abroad typically runs roughly half the US price.

How long is recovery?

Most patients see clearly within a day. You'll have follow-up checks to confirm the lens is positioned and the eye pressure is normal.

Can I get ICL if LASIK said no?

Often yes — ICL is frequently the recommended path for people whose corneas were too thin or whose prescription was too high for laser correction.
